Millions of years ago, the gods Ra, Rama, and Odin battle a shapeless black mass, a piece of which crashes down to earth, killing the dinosaurs. It develops into a pit of dark liquid, killing all in its wake from prehistory to the dawn of Japanese civilization. In feudal Japan, Jack’s father, the Emperor, sets out to destroy the pit but accidentally gives it life, creating Aku.
